What is the meaning of the WWF’s (World Wildlife Fund) protecting endangered species campaign.
WWF's (World Wildlife Fund) objectives for protecting endangered species focus on conserving critical habitats and reducing the threats that drive species to endangerment.
In 2011, the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) actively pursued several campaigns and initiatives aimed at protecting endangered species:
- Protecting polar bears: WWF, in partnership with Coca-Cola, launched the "Arctic Home" campaign to raise funds and awareness for polar bear conservation and the protection of their Arctic habitat. The campaign utilized special white Coca-Cola cans featuring polar bear graphics to promote the cause, and Coca-Cola pledged $2 million to WWF's conservation efforts, with an additional commitment to match donations up to $1 million.
- Tiger Conservation (TX2 Initiative): Building upon the commitments made at the 2010 Tiger Summit, WWF focused on the Global Tiger Recovery Programme (GTRP) to double the population of wild tigers by 2022.
- Combating Poaching and Illegal Wildlife Trade: WWF launched the "Zero Poaching of Tigers" initiative to directly address the threat of poaching. They also convened a symposium, "Towards Zero Poaching in Asia", which brought together various organizations to develop a coordinated strategy to eradicate poaching of tigers, rhinos, and elephants, and introduced a Zero Poaching Toolkit to assist countries in achieving this goal.
- Protecting Rhinos: WWF worked towards the conservation of both African and Asian rhino species, particularly focusing on the critically endangered Sumatran and Javan rhinos. They highlighted the severity of poaching and habitat loss as the primary threats to rhino survival.
