Collection: The Sumner Artwork Collections with Lithograph & Mint Stamps - Commonwealth Day 1983
What is the meaning of A First Day Lithograph
A first day lithograph is a limited edition print created on the same day a new postage stamp is issued, featuring a commemorative artwork and the official first-day postmark, often signed by the artist and presented as a collector's item. These lithographs combine the art of philately (stamp collecting) with the art of lithography, a printing technique that reproduces artwork on paper or other surfaces.
A First Day Cover is an envelope with a new stamp, postmarked on its first day of issue.
A First Day Lithograph is a separate, often more elaborate, print that accompanies the
stamp and features a different or expanded artistic design, sometimes with the stamp itself incorporated.
What is the Sumner Collection First Day Lithograph
The Sumner Collection refers to various collections of stamps and covers, often associated with the Sumner family or a specific Sumner-branded album or set, that have been sold at auction or through dealers. It isn't a single, unified national collection but rather a name given to these disparate groups of items, which can include anything from genuine historical stamps like the Penny Black to gold-plated replicas of stamps, or first-day covers from events like the 1981 Royal Wedding.
Key aspects of "The Sumner Collection":
Not a single collection:
The term describes multiple, distinct stamp and cover collections that have appeared under this name.
Various contents:
These collections can include:
Genuine historical stamps:
Some contain historic stamps, including the Penny Black.
Replicas:
Some are collections of 22ct gold-plated replicas of stamps, such as those from the London Landmarks series.

Many feature FDCs, particularly those from the 1981 Royal Wedding.
Appearing at auction:

Seller-defined branding:
