What was the meaning of the National Guide Dog Month in 2008
In 2008, several notable events involving guide dogs occurred, including the awarding of a Dickin Medal to two guide dogs, the establishment of National Guide Dog Month, and a study on the impact of guide dogs on travel habits. Additionally, Kelvin Crosby received his Guiding Eyes for the Blind dog, Jerry, in June of that year.

A study by Matsunaka and Koda (2008) examined stress levels between guide dog owners and non-dog owners in Japan when out and about in public spaces.
Dickin Medal:
In 2008, Salty and Roselle, two guide dogs who led their owners to safety during the 9/11 attacks, were posthumously awarded the Dickin Medal. Their citation recognized their "loyalty and courage" in leading their owners down 70 floors of the World Trade Center after the terrorist attack.

Working Dogs (Europa 2008) - 5 February 2008. 2008 is the centenary of the first Police dogs being deployed in the UK. The Europa theme is "the letter" and the 1st class stamp features an Assistance Dog carrying a letter, one of the many tasks these dogs are trained for.
